Shared custody might just confuse the cats and make things harder in the long run. Sometimes it’s kinder to rip off the bandaid early and let them adjust to one home.

Could get pretty awkward explaining shared cat custody to the next partner. Might be simpler (and less messy) to take your cat, wish them well, and call it a clean split.
